me using the steam deck might only problem with it is I don't have a keyboard and I don't think that's the fault of Linux for it being finicky.

Arch gives you nothing/relatively close to nothing so the system only has things you want or need, rather than filling up your expensive SSD/HDD with things you neither want or need.

Just wanna say. Thank you, Mr. Michael Horn, for your Linux videos. I am currently on Bazzite HTPC OS for gaming. Still use Linux Mint as my desktop, but slowly switching to some kind of Fedora Spin. After the recent Windows Recall issue, I haven't uninstalled Windows. Yet, I haven't used it in months anyways. For context: Gotta admit. After being a long time Linux Mint user, I saw your video and commented on how I have been using multiple different distros and Windows OSs for my tool to just get the job done. Well, after seeing all these videos of you using Fedora. I finally said, "All right. I'll try Fedora again after all of these years. Let's see what this is about." My main goal was finding a Linux OS for my low, cheap gaming centered unit. And after my own personal ventures with the Fedora including the exact AMD driver issues you mentioned(just had to manually compiled). I tried Fedora Spin's Cinnamon, Budgie, and KDE editions. KDE worked shockingly well after setting it up. Then I saw the Gamescope session from Steam Deck on two Fedora forked alternatives being Nobara and Bazzite. Gamescope does help in gaming. Like how System 76 has as well. Not crazy like, but in 1% to 2% in frametime. Same framerate though as all Llinux distros. I tried Gamescope on Fedora KDE....and that went as well as people wpuld expect. But it was my fault. I accept that. So, I saw Nobara and Bazzite OS being good Fedora forked alternatives. Tried them both out. Nobara worked well. In fact, I'm going to install it on an older secondary gaming unit I have with a GTX 1050 2gb at my brother's place. And Nobara worked..until I tried updating AMD drivers, the Kernel, or the KDE distro which broke the OS. Again. My fault. Just wanted to play my games which it's either the current Nobara AMD drivers, Kernel, or KDE distro would not launch with. But Bazzite. Bazzite worked way, WAY better. It supports ALL of my games. I have *never* had that in a Linux distro before. However, for my personal single player games and point n click adventures. They launch on Bazzite even now more than before with latest updates on Bazzite. Even if the game is buggy like the GOG version of "Beyond Good & Evil". The resolution always stay in this weird shrunk screen. It's 480p on my 1440p monitor. Weird, but it actually launches. I have NEVER had that single game launch on ANY Linux OS other than Bazzite specifically the HTPC version. I don't know what they are doing with Bazzite's HTPC OS. But, I can absolutely recommend it. Maybe not for beginners. But for those who don't wanna mess with console commands. Bazzite has been my best set it and forget it experience for a gaming-centered specific experience. Just wanted to say thank you for these videos. Helped changed my stubborn mind. Still respect but don't like the BTRFS filesystem. As a man who likes to control his drives, that drives me wild. But using Fedora version 40, KDE Plasma 6, and the latest Mesa drivers on Gamescope. I have finally been playing games more than hoping they will finally work on Linux. And I couldn't be happier.

There's a few of things here that aren't necessarily accurate... A client-side anti-cheat system does not look for people cheating. The only thing it does is verify that the game client is not being manipulated by any other software and that the signals that the game client is sending to the game server are reliable, at least from an operating system level. Everything else is done by the game developer at the server-side level. Every single game that uses kernel-level anti-cheat also uses server-side anti-cheat protections to detect cheaters. It's not a one or the other situation like you're describing, they're using both methods.

That’s not quite my experience of trying Linux for the first time. As soon as I wanted to do something a bit for demanding than using a web browser I was immediately Googling and reading through 12 year old forum threads looking for help. 😢

I'm a professional programmer, I code mostly server applications, I've been on Linux exclusively for about six years, and I love it for coding. But I think Linux deserves its reputation for being difficult, and a huge part of that is its toxic, fanatical and unwelcoming community.

This is why people ignore Linux. Too confusing, too much unnecessary distros and not stable learning curve..

I dont know why nobody mentions them but ZorinOS and ElementaryOS are 2 nice beginner-friendly distros. Zorin focuses on providing a complete OOB experience for general use, it also has an option for installing a Windows app support (Wine) and it's pretty good for gaming. eOS focuses on being clean and simple, with only a few apps preinstalled, it has a MacOS-like UI which could be good for Apple users, but it doesn't take so long to get used to.

as a long time Linux user there are 3 pros and cons to switching to linux - Linux is insanely light and can run on anything ( I have it on my 20 year old laptop with 40 gb hdd) - it comes with no tracking and spying ( windows collects data nonstop and mac's are literally scanning your private pictures and handing them to police ) - you have an unimaginable amount of apps at your disposal. on windows you are stuck with the internet and Ms store which is garbage. while on Linux you have thousands of repositories where you can install anything by typing q few words. now for the cons: - gaming is kinda hard on Linux specially if you don't know what you are doing but it is possible and you can even get more fps sometimes - It's quite the learning curve where even installing graphics drivers may require an hour the first time - it take some time to make it look how you want ( windows and mac look good by default but Linux doesn't but you can customize it to perfection ) at the end of the day switching ks only a benefit and for those who want to game I would highly recommend dualbooting ( you have both Linux and windows )

It's funny that it's only been fool proofed recently. I remember Windows 98 giving a big message when looking into the Windows folder that said "Don't delete anything in here" with a button to make the message go away if you were feeling serious. This level of protection was considered novel in 1998. That's Linux for you.

It means you can't run half of the software worth running, and you will be forever stuck with a community that is built around LARPing as 70s mainframe operators, using an operating system whose entire identity is a software license largely written and popularized by a famous computer plagiarist. It also means that it's immutable.

    >Ubuntu has left the chat. Ubuntu is a LOT more heavier than mint. Basically almost as unoptimized as windows. (In my experience, Ubuntu gets lag spikes and its super buggy and gets meh fps in minecraft which is natively supported on Linux very well) Java edition btw. But on Arch, it was less buggy and the performance was really gud...

If the distro provides all the tools you need and doesn't stop you from uninstalling anything then I don't see the point of "light" or "heavy". I love Mint, it not only just works but is incredibly easy to customize. It's also 10x smaller than windows and runs better too.
